The problem with Fall Creek Falls State Park is that you have to decide which waterfall(s) to photograph on a given morning. This trail is a definite option for early photography as the access road to the falls is closed at night and reopens at dawn. There is also the Woodland trail from the nature center over to the top of Fall Creek Falls. However, keep in mind that you're going down almost 300 feet total so the climb out will take a little effort. So the round trip distance is about 0.8 miles, not too far. You cannot truly appreciate the height and power of the water free falling for 256 feet until you visit the base. ![]() Having said that I still love going to the base. When you get out of the "mist zone" the trees obstruct the view. I've tried a few different views at the base with little success from a photography standpoint. The hike is for going to the base of the falls and is obviously optional. Getting Thereįor those with GPS units in their vehicles, here are a couple of key addresses:Ģ009 Village Camp Road Pikeville, TN 37367Īs there are a minimum of two different roads into the park, I recommend you use the following link to customize your own directions to Fall Creek Falls. This is a great state park - one of the gems of Tennessee. In its own right it would be impressive, at least in the wet season when it flows, lol. Coon Creek Falls is obviously dwarfed by its neighbor and doesn't get much attention. So to just focus on one waterfall is difficult, and certainly in the case of Fall Creek Falls one also has the nearby Coon Creek Falls to also consider - at least briefly. ![]() It isn't just the 256 foot vertical plunge, but the fact that the nearby area within Fall Creek Falls State Park has another five waterfalls, all unique and of those five a couple more that are really impressive, Cane Creek Falls and Rockhouse Falls. The Falls Creek Falls Trail head #152 is located 15 miles north of Carson, Washington off Wind River Highway.I'll just get right to the point - fantastic! Keep in mind that the road is closed from Dec 1st - April 1st, so if you go during that time, add an extra 4 miles to the hike. It requires a little more skill, but so worth it. Back at the top, you can get to the base of the middle tier, over the giant rocks, under some fallen trees, and up a steep path of loose dirt and exposed roots. If you're feeling adventurous and don't mind the spray from the falls, scramble to the small ledge below for a different perspective and photo op. The trail ends with with an impressive view of the middle and lower tier. Once the falls are in sight, make sure to stop and look up to see the top tier through the trees. The trail hugs the creek for the first mile, and takes you through old growth trees for the second mile. The trail to Falls Creek Falls is well maintained with a few short moderately steep areas. This hike through the Gifford Pinchot National Forest leads to Fall Creek Falls, a 220-foot, three tiered waterfall. ![]()
